One year, 29 states

From Oct. 18, 2016, to Oct. 17, 2017, I took three big vacations and a couple medium-sized ones. Since I've been notoriously bad at keeping up with making trip reports, I thought I'd post a representative sampling of photos instead, one from each state.

Alabama - Historic state capitol building, Montgomery

Arkansas - Lots of Clearview in West Memphis

Colorado - West side of the Continental Divide on I-70

Connecticut - State capitol designed by someone with no experience in capitols, but lots of experience in cathedrals

Florida - North end of I-110 in Pensacola on a four-state travel day

Illinois - Need I say anything?

Indiana - After the band played, Penn State crushed the Boilermakers.

Iowa - Squirrel Cage Jail, Council Bluffs, Lincoln Highway convention

Kansas - In the middle of the Great Plains, I stopped to see Pawnee Rock, pulled up behind a Linn County license plate, and met someone who knew a classmate of my dad's.

Kentucky - Mammoth Cave National Park (pictures in the cave aren't nearly as good)

Louisiana - Pregame at Tiger Stadium, LSU vs. Ole Miss

Maine - West Quoddy Head Lighthouse (depicted at right) is at the easternmost point of the U.S.

Massachusetts - Lexington Green, site of the Shot Heard 'Round the World

Michigan - State triple point, four miles of driving in the state, still counts

Minnesota - Twins vs. Rangers; Bartolo Colon pitches complete game

Mississippi - Center of the Ole Miss campus, Oxford

Missouri - Five hours to St. Louis, and then about three hours to start passing cotton fields

North Carolina - Changing planes in Charlotte still counts as setting foot in the state, and thanks to construction I even got outside

Nebraska - Indianola, Red Willow County, on US 6/34

New Hampshire - Franconia Notch and Old Man Park

New Mexico - Ugly route shield between Springer and Clayton, on a day filled with miles and miles of miles and miles

New York - Monument to Benedict Arnold's leg, Battle of Saratoga National Historical Park

Ohio - I traveled US 6 east to I-75, then north, then US 20 west. It rained until I left Toledo.

Oklahoma - Boise City, county seat at the end of the Panhandle, is slightly closer to Denver than Oklahoma City

Rhode Island - Best state capitol restrooms, hands down. The rest is pretty remarkable too.

Tennessee - It took way, way too long to get through Nashville

Texas - Didn't get 20 yards south of the state line; technically, the tri-state marker should be in the road. Corner of New Mexico/Oklahoma.

Vermont - A fine state capitol building, Montpelier

Wisconsin - Taking the scenic way back from Chicago's North Side, via US 14 and WI 11
