Open image in new tab for larger version.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After 20 years of a slow then accelerated decay, the school in the unincorporated Linn County town of Viola is coming down. Demolition began Aug. 16,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.journal-eureka.com\/news\/article_beeea7ca-a6ea-11e8-bf9f-47c66861d82c.html\"> the <em>Anamosa Journal-Eureka<\/em> reports.<\/a>\u00a0The property&#8217;s owners gave lots of consideration to restoration, but by the time they got a hold of it the 1922 building and later addition were too far gone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/ViolaSchoolRules.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"235\" \/><em>&#8220;Do not annoy the squirrels&#8221; didn&#8217;t make the cut.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 18, 2015:\u00a0The school in Viola closed in 1998.
