{"id":10785,"date":"2019-03-25T10:00:18","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T15:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=10785"},"modified":"2019-03-24T21:20:33","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T02:20:33","slug":"shopko-is-toast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2019\/03\/shopko-is-toast\/","title":{"rendered":"Shopko is toast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2019\/01\/shopko-closures-hit-small-county-seats\/\">deep bleeding<\/a> that was already coming out <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2019\/02\/retail-apocalypse-comes-to-tama-county\/\">earlier this year<\/a> is complete, as the Shopko retail chain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apnews.com\/14b7fc4f03684635bb44b8f0a7510a8a\">filed for bankruptcy and liquidation<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining dozen stores in Iowa that had escaped the earlier closures \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/fox11digital.com\/news\/PDFs\/Shopko%203-18.pdf\">based on this bankruptcy filing<\/a> \u2014 will wind down by the end of June.<\/p>\n<p>Mason City&#8217;s Shopko <a href=\"https:\/\/globegazette.com\/news\/local\/updated-all-shopko-stores-including-the-mason-city-location-closing\/article_03034d70-600a-5b52-957d-e3fdbd6dabca.html#4\">opened July 14, 1985<\/a>, as a Shopko, but all the Shopko Hometowns in the smaller communities used to be Pamidas.
