But it remains an important corridor through Des Moines&#8217; neglected north side.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the proposed solution for redevelopment of the corridor relies on making drivers hate it. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/money\/business\/development\/2019\/11\/22\/douglas-avenue-redevelopment-master-plan-des-moines\/4257912002\/\">According to the <em>Register<\/em>:<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The goal is to definitely slow down traffic,&#8221; Peters said. &#8220;We absolutely heard that from the residents and business owners.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The group is also studying whether a roundabout at the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Beaver Avenue would help calm traffic.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/douglasave.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/FINAL_Douglas_Open_House_Boards_2019.11.11.pdf\">A large PDF shows the extended plan.<\/a>\u00a0The <em>Register<\/em> says planners expect it to take a decade. Douglas is under DOT control, but the state has shown intense interest in shifting many similar corridors to three lanes.
