{"id":11809,"date":"2020-01-29T10:00:53","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T16:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=11809"},"modified":"2020-01-26T21:04:06","modified_gmt":"2020-01-27T03:04:06","slug":"new-moc-fv-elementary-would-eliminate-hospers-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2020\/01\/new-moc-fv-elementary-would-eliminate-hospers-school\/","title":{"rendered":"New MOC-FV elementary would eliminate Hospers school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Finishing a miniseries of school bond blog posts, I suppose.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A proposal to consolidate elementary schools in the MOC-FV school district would result in one town losing its school.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ktiv.com\/2020\/01\/21\/moc-floyd-valley-school-district-board-of-education-in-orange-city-iowa-proposes-a-new-elementary-school-be-built\/\">A story on KTIV says<\/a> the district is proposing a new building on the east side of Orange City (the story says &#8220;between Alton and Orange City&#8221; but the towns are three miles apart).\u00a0The district&#8217;s two elementary facilities are in Hospers, on IA 60, and Orange City, the original school in the middle of town.<\/p>\n<p>This is not a case of fewer students; instead it is a case of steady growth and outgrowth. Sioux and Lyon counties have the only cluster of rural districts in Iowa <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/06\/map-of-iowa-school-enrollment-changes-2001-2015\/\">that have gained students this century.<\/a>\u00a0But the $37 million bond issue would still result in Hospers losing its school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finishing a miniseries of school bond blog posts, I suppose.
