I saw the RV at the Iowa State Fair.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Severe financial difficulties are causing a reconfiguration of grades in the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura school district and the first building casualty of the 2020s. The vote happened last week, <a href=\"http:\/\/clreporter.com\/ghv-middle-school-in-ventura-will-close\/\">according to this partial story<\/a> from the <em>Clear Lake Mirror Reporter<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Enrollment in the district is barely above what Garner-Hayfield by itself had a student generation ago. <a href=\"https:\/\/globegazette.com\/news\/ghv-s-budget-cuts-move-middle-school-to-garner\/article_1ed020c6-ed2d-5a2c-bfca-217f61d9ee2a.html\">According to the <em>Mason City Globe-Gazette<\/em><\/a>, the consolidated district&#8217;s spending authority, the difference between money spent and money allowed to be spent, has decreased substantially. The <a href=\"https:\/\/theleaderonline.net\/content\/steep-budget-cuts-loom-ghv\"><em>Garner Leader<\/em> has a shorter story.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At some point between 2013, the first year of sharing between Garner-Hayfield and Ventura, and now, the second school building in Ventura was closed. I found a <em>Mirror Reporter<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/clreporter.com\/ghv-school-board-to-vote-on-school-building-use-dec-8\/\">article from 2014<\/a> regarding a proposed configuration that had grades 5-6 in the Intermediate School and grades 7-8 in the junior high (Ventura HS), and the district itself still has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghvschools.org\/garner-hayfield-venturaintermediateschool_home.aspx\">a page for the intermediate school<\/a>. However,\u00a0the drop-down menu <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghvschools.org\/garner-hayfield-venturajuniorhighschool_home.aspx\">has 5-8 in the junior high\/middle school<\/a>\u00a0and the <em>Globe Gazette<\/em> story says the school is currently operating three buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, moving grades 5-8 will put all grades in Garner, and Ventura will become the first town in the 2020s to lose its school building.
