That caveat has become meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2014\/11\/more-on-the-ia-926-transfer\/\">transfer of jurisdiction said &#8220;excluding bridges,&#8221;<\/a> the bridges in question being the Karl King Viaduct and Kenyon Road bridge, both over the Des Moines River*. Fort Dodge took that jurisdiction and <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2018\/10\/evil-has-come-to-fort-dodge\/\">mangled a central intersection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, there&#8217;s a notice for a DOT meeting Feb. 18 about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.iowadot.gov\/newsandinfo\/2020\/02\/proposed-bridge-improvements-for-iowa-926-in-webster-county-to-be-discussed-feb-18-in-fort-dodge.html\">&#8220;proposed traffic control options&#8221;<\/a> for replacing the Kenyon Road bridge, the southern one of the two. A bridge in this location dates back to 1935, and used to carry US 20. (However, 20 may not have been put on it until 1937, and I address that discrepancy in my <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/maps\/fortdodge.html\">Fort Dodge Highway Chronology<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>The press release says the bridge replacement will take place in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>*As of this writing, Google Maps is labeling the Des Moines River north of Saylorville Lake as &#8220;Deer Creek&#8221; and not labeling it north of Jackson MN at all.
