{"id":12001,"date":"2020-04-13T10:00:17","date_gmt":"2020-04-13T15:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=12001"},"modified":"2020-04-11T01:07:54","modified_gmt":"2020-04-11T06:07:54","slug":"wapello-connection-debate-solved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2020\/04\/wapello-connection-debate-solved\/","title":{"rendered":"Wapello connection debate solved?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I guess ramming your head into a brick wall\/plain old obstreperousness\u00a0sometimes DOES work.<\/p>\n<p>The Iowa DOT is prepared to allow an intersection with future four-lane US 61 and a side road south of Wapello, <a href=\"https:\/\/muscatinejournal.com\/muscatine\/news\/local\/i-like-it-supervisors-approve-of-plan-for-highway-61-access-south-of-wapello\/article_92a6677e-10e9-5265-97ea-87623e39409a.html\">the <em>Muscatine Journal<\/em> reported nearly two weeks ago<\/a>. This is what (or reasonably close to what) Louisa County supervisors and local residents <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2019\/09\/wapello-half-exit-not-without-drawbacks\/\">have been demanding.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The plan, according to the story, involves a &#8220;J-turn&#8221; intersection.\u00a0A J-turn is<a href=\"http:\/\/www.michiganhighways.org\/indepth\/michigan_left.html\">\u00a0similar to a Michigan Left<\/a>, except that no traffic on the cross road is allowed to go straight through. They have to cross two lanes of traffic to get to the U-turn, then cross two lanes again.<\/p>\n<p>The J-turn concept was floated and shot down at both the US 65\/IA 330 intersection, now an interchange, and the US 30\/US 218 intersection, soon to be an interchange.
