That will be a framework for blog posts about the system. The smallest spurs to the smallest towns, not surprisingly, fill the bottom ranks.<\/p>\n<p>For the routes that lasted after 1980, I expanded their already existing pages and added photos to quite a few. If you try to go to a route in the 1920 series and it doesn&#8217;t have its own page, there should be an automatic redirect.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia70_1920.html\">IA 70<\/a>, half a mile to Macksburg, leads off the list.<\/li>\n<li>Spurs that were practically unchanged until 1980 or shortly thereafter:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia42_1920.html\">42<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia54_1920.html\">54<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia79_1920.html\">79<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia87_1920.html\">87<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia102_1920.html\">102<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia72.html\">IA 72<\/a> almost fit the above point, but it had changes to the west end and was extended to I-35 for six years.<\/li>\n<li>Spurs that were practically\u00a0unchanged until 2003:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia36_1920.html\">36<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia41_1920.html\">41<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia68_1920.html\">68<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia82_1920.html\">82<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia97_1920.html\">97<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>IA <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia50.html\">50<\/a> was extended into a double spur for decades, but its 1920 and 2003 endpoints were identical.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Spurs that were unchanged or slightly changed except for a number replacement: <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia272.html\">52<\/a> (to 272), <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia67.html\">67<\/a> (to 55), <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia69_1920.html\">69<\/a> (to 138),\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia363.html\">92<\/a>\u00a0(to 363)<\/li>\n<li>Other routes: <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia81_1920.html\">81<\/a> (which later became IA 114), <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/1920ends\/ia84_1920.html\">84<\/a> (tied into the history of IA 999)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I used an unscientific formula to &#8220;rank&#8221; the primary routes from 1920, from the least to the most important.
