After reading the funeral announcement \u2014 aka the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iowaeconomicdevelopment.com\/userdocs\/news\/08122020cdbmin.pdf\">City Development Board minutes of August 12<\/a> \u2014 it died of loneliness and apathy.\u00a0(The word &#8220;apathy&#8221; is actually in there. There were only three families inside city limits.)<\/p>\n<div title=\"Page 2\">\n<p><em>The Mayor of Pioneer went into rehab at a care center and then COVID hit and his rehab did not happen, so she does not think he will ever come home. The City doesn\u2019t\u00a0have enough members to hold a City Council meeting the way it should be held.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <em>Fort Dodge Messenger<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.messengernews.net\/news\/local-news\/2018\/11\/what-will-happen-to-pioneer\/\">reported in 2018<\/a> that the town was thinking of unincorporating. I haven&#8217;t seen a follow-up on last month&#8217;s state action.<\/p>\n<p>Pioneer is halfway between Gilmore City and Clare on a Union Pacific Railroad line, five miles south of IA 3.
