{"id":13710,"date":"2021-12-13T10:30:41","date_gmt":"2021-12-13T16:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=13710"},"modified":"2021-12-13T10:17:51","modified_gmt":"2021-12-13T16:17:51","slug":"a-growing-crisis-of-capital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2021\/12\/a-growing-crisis-of-capital\/","title":{"rendered":"A growing crisis of capital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the past two years:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kacey Musgraves <a href=\"https:\/\/georgetownvoice.com\/2021\/10\/19\/star-crossed\/\">released an album<\/a> with an intentionally lowercased title and all-lowercase songs.<\/li>\n<li>Taylor Swift released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2020\/12\/taylor-swift-evermore-folklore-surprise-explained.html\">not one but TWO albums<\/a> with intentionally lowercased titles and all-lowercase songs. She has gone back to regular capitalization for the re-releases, thankfully.<\/li>\n<li>Kelsea Ballerini released an album with an intentionally lowercased title and all-lowercase songs, then took those songs and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/kelsea-ballerini-saved-album-pandemic-1072796\/\">turned them inside out with a &#8220;stripped-down&#8221; version<\/a>. (The rationale for the second relates to the first being released on March 20, 2020.)<\/li>\n<li>This is going on elsewhere in music, too, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/entertainment\/music\/willow-olivia-rodrigo-billie-eilish-lowercase-letters\/2021\/10\/08\/1aecbb2a-2767-11ec-8d53-67cfb452aa60_story.html\">says the <em>Washington Post<\/em><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t strictly a past-two-years thing; beyond music it&#8217;s more a <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2018\/08\/newbo-de-evolve\/\">past-five-years thing<\/a>. It&#8217;s also, as you can see above, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/y3z45v\/internet-lowercase-spelling-taylor-swift-charli-xcx\">and as written in Vice<\/a>, gendered. Given Swift&#8217;s participation, I can&#8217;t blame it on Generation Z &#8230; entirely &#8230; yet.<\/p>\n<p>I despise it and only half-jokingly wish there was a law against that sort of thing. However, because I am weak, none of that stopped me from buying more than one of the aforementioned albums.
