Construction is planned for late next year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcci.com\/article\/iowa-dot-opens-reopens-victor-rest-area-with-adult-changing-table\/38605677\">KCCI reported<\/a> that a rebuilt <em>westbound<\/em> rest area opened just before Christmas, but that appears to be inaccurate based on both Google Street View and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bidnet.com\/closed-government-contracts\/construction-of-rest-area-at-i-80-east-bound-mile-marker-208--victor--ia-in-iowa-county?itemId=639045839\">this government contract<\/a>. This rest area used to include an oddity \u2014 an Amana Colonies &#8220;Welcome Center&#8221; in an octagonal building, about as far from a state line as you can get.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iowadot.gov\/pim\/documents\/1221I80RestAreaPD2.pdf\">The plan (PDF)<\/a> nearly doubles the number of spaces for semi parking and nearly halves the number of spaces for passenger vehicles.\u00a0The expansion moves the exit and re-entrance points on I-80 farther apart, and the &#8220;truck inspection area&#8221; adds a lot more space on the east side.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Iowa DOT&#8217;s plan to expand parking at the I-80 eastbound rest area between the Victor and Ladora exits\u00a0is available online.
