Marker at top of entrance on the other side says &#8220;Western Bridge Works, Fort Wayne, Ind., 1879.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Chambers Ford Bridge in southeast Tama County was offered for sale before it was <a href=\"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/12\/chambers-ford-bridge-is-doomed\/\">demolished and replaced<\/a>. Now another historic Pratt truss in Iowa is doomed in the same way.<\/p>\n<p>The Fort Atkinson Bridge, on the Turkey River just north of that town, was built in 1892, <a href=\"https:\/\/bridgehunter.com\/ia\/winneshiek\/fort-atkinson\/\">according to BridgeHunter<\/a>. This bridge was on the original route of present <a href=\"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia24.html\">IA 24<\/a> until the entire route east of Lawler was graded on its present alignment in 1932.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge has been closed for years and has become a nuisance. County engineers want to get rid of the liability, <a href=\"https:\/\/decorahnews.com\/news\/4597\/the-future-of-the-fort-atkinson-bridge-is-uncertain\/\">reports the Decorah News<\/a>. The story does not say if the bridge would be replaced, although given that it&#8217;s been closed and IA 24 is a decent enough alternative it probably won&#8217;t be.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s not the only bridge that can be yours after shipping and handling fees! (Land not included.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waukonstandard.com\/articles\/2022\/03\/16\/black-hawk-bridge-among-four-historic-bridges-listed-iowa-dot-adoption-and\">The <em>Waukon Standard<\/em> reports<\/a> the Iowa DOT has four bridges up for &#8220;adoption&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Black Hawk Bridge in Lansing, currently in use and set to be replaced by 2025<\/li>\n<li>Eastbound US 30 over the Cedar River, which is only from 1953 but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegazette.com\/news\/highway-30-eastbound-bridge-over-cedar-river-to-be-replaced-in-2022\/\">historic in its construction type<\/a> as a &#8220;welded I-girder bridge&#8221; and being torn down in a matter of weeks<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/iowadot.gov\/historicbridges\/historic-bridges\/hardin-city-bridge\">Hardin City Bridge<\/a> northwest of Steamboat Rock, built in 1879, relocated after replacement in the 1980s<\/li>\n<li>A bridge over the Boone River northeast of Renwick, closed for some amount of time. It is an Iowa Bridge Company bridge from 1912, a <a href=\"https:\/\/bridgehunter.com\/ia\/wright\/359190\/\">&#8220;polygonal-chorded Warren truss&#8221;<\/a> style immediately rendered obsolete by Iowa Highway Commission design standards.
