Nothing kept happening, so I let it slide. But after the Gladbrook school <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2022\/06\/gladbrook-school-demolition-in-final-stages\/\">finally came down<\/a> this summer, I thought about it again.<\/p>\n<p>It was demolished earlier this year, according to news story snippets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eldoranewspapers.com\/content\/date-wrecking-ball-eldora-school-demolition-set-summer\">from late March<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timescitizen.com\/news\/mixed-feelings-about-eldora-school-demolition\/article_2e10db62-ebef-11ec-b48c-f746f9e6da11.html\">mid-June.<\/a> Both the <em>Eldora Herald-Ledger<\/em> and <em>Iowa Falls Times-Citizen<\/em> websites only display a few sentences before a paywall kicks in, but that was enough for me to see&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timescitizen.com\/news\/eldora-school-building-finally-coming-down\/article_f3a021b2-a9e1-11ec-9d48-cf4fc6114605.html\">HEY THAT&#8217;S MY PICTURE!!<\/a>\u00a0A photo of the side of the school with all the windows boarded up, taken in 2015,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2017\/04\/e-is-for-eldora\/\">was posted on this blog<\/a> in April 2017 and printed in the <em>Times-Citizen<\/em> on March 23 without my knowledge. Eldora Historical Society, would you like to explain yourself?<\/p>\n<p>Based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timescitizen.com\/news\/mixed-feelings-about-eldora-school-demolition\/article_2e10db62-ebef-11ec-b48c-f746f9e6da11.html\">on a <em>T-C<\/em> snippet<\/a> and Iowa Department of Education building lists, it looks like I was a year off on the beginning of Eldora-New Providence and Hubbard-Radcliffe starting sharing as South Hardin, so that has been <a href=\"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/maps\/schooltimeline.html\">corrected in the timeline to 2007<\/a>. Based on a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eldoranewspapers.com\/content\/school-eyes-september-bond-vote\">snippet from the <em>H-L<\/em> in May<\/a>, the gym\u00a0continued to be used after the school was closed. It was built in 1958-59, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/npgallery.nps.gov\/GetAsset\/f54671b4-6b49-470a-86df-056d110a065d\">an application to get Eldora&#8217;s downtown<\/a> on the National Register of Historic Places, and the minimal connection between the two structures would have permitted continued use.<\/p>\n<p>(I didn&#8217;t intend to write about two cases of reproduction-without-notification, but they just happened to crop up within a few-day span.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every once in a while for a long time I would check the Eldora newspaper&#8217;s website to see if there was any progress on demolition of the 1916-17 school building.
