There is a possibility that junior high and junior varsity could play 8 soon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northtamatelegraph.com\/news\/education\/2022\/12\/01\/no-action-taken-by-north-tama-school-board-on-8-player-football\/\">according to the <em>North Tama Telegraph<\/em><\/a>. A phased-in approach would at least reduce which grade levels have to make a sudden adjustement.<\/li>\n<li>But more importantly, for the long-term picture, the school district is on track for a March bond referendum that would provide for the construction of new high school facilities on the far east end of the block, allowing for demolition of the 1917 building in the middle. See the above link.<\/li>\n<li>Tama County voters went 3-to-2 in favor of enlarging the board to five supervisors. <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2022\/10\/tama-county-vote-about-more-than-board-size\/\">See this blog post<\/a> for exploration of this issue and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tamatoledonews.com\/news\/2022\/11\/11\/tama-county-voters-say-yes-to-five-supervisors\/\">this <em>Tama-Toledo News-Chronicle<\/em> story<\/a> for county results.<\/li>\n<li>Traer is building a new fire station next to the old one because it couldn&#8217;t get the old Traer Manufacturing building on the south side of town. See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northtamatelegraph.com\/news\/local-news\/2022\/12\/15\/traers-new-fire-station-building-takes-shape\/\">last Thursday&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Telegraph<\/em> story<\/a>, which is an update from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northtamatelegraph.com\/news\/local-news\/2021\/08\/12\/traer-city-council-talks-ordinances-bond-agreement-and-traer-mfg\/\">this August 2021 <em>Telegraph<\/em> story<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Tama-Grundy newspapers and the <em>Marshalltown Times-Republican<\/em> are now being published in Webster City after the <em>T-R<\/em>&#8216;s printing press was shut down abruptly around the end of October. The only online news item is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1230kfjb.com\/2022\/11\/07\/times-republican-moves-printing-operation\/\">this short one from KFJB Radio in Marshalltown<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesrepublican.com\/news\/todays-news\/2022\/07\/t-r-publisher-stepping-down\/\"><em>T-R<\/em>&#8216;s publisher resigned in July<\/a> and the publisher of the Fort Dodge and Webster City papers was named interim.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, <a href=\"http:\/\/thegrundyregister.com\/content\/baur-buy-ticket-take-ride\">the <em>Grundy Register<\/em>&#8216;s editor<\/a>, who had been on the job since March, is now a reporter for the <em>T-R<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Carroll Times Herald<\/em> and <em>Jefferson Herald<\/em>, long family owned, were sold shortly after Thanksgiving. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.1380kcim.com\/2022\/12\/02\/ownership-of-carroll-times-herald-jefferson-herald-changes-hands\/\">Link: KCIM-AM<\/a>)\n<ul>\n<li>Douglas Burns, the Carroll paper&#8217;s editor, <a href=\"https:\/\/iowacapitaldispatch.com\/2022\/10\/18\/suicidal-thoughts-resilience-in-a-small-town-iowa-newspapers-fierce-last-stand\/\">wrote candidly in October<\/a> about being interviewed for a book about American newspapers today.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Fort Madison Daily Democrat<\/em> and <em>Keokuk Daily Gate City<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississippivalleypublishing.com\/daily_democrat\/daily-democrat-announces-big-change\/article_ca2e09e6-c41e-5b7a-b7d2-69b9002c4f52.html\">have switched to Tuesday-Saturday<\/a>\u00a0publication instead of Monday-Friday.<\/li>\n<li>The owner of those two papers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iowapublicradio.org\/ipr-news\/2022-12-01\/gannett-sells-burlington-hawk-eye-to-illinois-based-company\">acquired the <em>Burlington Hawk Eye<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississippivalleypublishing.com\/the_hawk_eye\/new-and-improved-local-hawk-eye-debuts\/article_a8aa5733-aebb-585e-9883-7ea885aca74c.html\">also switched it to Tuesday-Saturday<\/a>.
