Stories and video: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwqc.com\/2024\/02\/18\/controlled-explosives-used-remaining-old-i-74-bridge-sunday\/\">KWQC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wqad.com\/article\/traffic\/bridges\/final-demolition-old-i-74-bridge-sunday-feb-18\/526-606f095e-186f-4583-b5d3-29be88c7abec\">WQAD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The subject of the fourth and final demolition can be seen in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wqad.com\/article\/traffic\/bridges\/remaining-piers-from-old-interstate-74-bridge-being-demolished-this-month\/526-c4fb4d97-5968-4c1d-b600-b02e6bc12ceb\">this video from October<\/a>, when there was a different controlled demolition. It&#8217;s the bigger hunk of concrete, which was shaved down to near river level before Sunday&#8217;s action.<\/p>\n<p>*The thinner piers in the foreground of the October video will remain standing. &#8220;Some of the piers from the old bridge will remain in place due to federally protected mussels around them,&#8221; WQAD reported at that time.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining I-74 bridge assembly joins a similar one for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johnweeks.com\/river_missouri\/pages\/omaha09.html\">Ak-Sar-Ben bridge<\/a> on the Missouri River as reminders of transportation past.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday, the Moline anchorage to one of the bridge piers of the old I-74 bridge was blown up in an explosion.
