{"id":15926,"date":"2025-07-24T10:00:15","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T15:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=15926"},"modified":"2025-07-21T22:38:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T03:38:16","slug":"dyersville-shoeless-joe-and-pete-rose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2025\/07\/dyersville-shoeless-joe-and-pete-rose\/","title":{"rendered":"Dyersville, Shoeless Joe, and Pete Rose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(Well, it&#8217;s state tournament week, so that&#8217;s the hook. \u2014 Ed.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On May 14, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced a change that would allow Pete Rose and the Black Sox (but yeah, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/44905639\/mlb-rule-request-end-pete-rose-ban-trump-meeting\">it&#8217;s all about Pete Rose<\/a>) to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame. That night, I got the cockamamie idea to go to Dyersville and see if I could find anyone at the Field of Dreams the next day to offer an opinion. <a href=\"https:\/\/betweentworivers.substack.com\/p\/ghosts-of-the-diamond\">I was not disappointed.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(I was, however, subsequently disappointed this story did not get selected for the Iowa Capital Dispatch, but it was published right as the Iowa Legislature started a 21-hour day to close out its session. Sometimes the deep ball to center gets caught at the warning track.)<\/p>\n<p>KCRG interviewed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcrg.com\/2025\/05\/16\/field-dreams-ghost-conflicted-shoeless-joe-jacksons-reinstatement\/\">&#8220;Ghost Player&#8221; who portrays Shoeless Joe<\/a>, and that story aired the night of May 15, and I published my story the morning of May 16.
