Many in the district are unhappy with the arrangement. They wanted a sharing agreement with Preston to the west instead, and had to get court approval for a vote to go through.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/qctimes.com\/news\/local\/education\/jackson-county-school-merger-narrowly-wins-approval\/article_235e318e-fc8e-11e1-9a77-001a4bcf887a.html\">That vote passed Tuesday<\/a>. (<em>QC Times<\/em>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whbf.com\/story\/19507710\/voting-begins-to-merge-rural-iowa-schools\">see also WHBF<\/a>)\u00a0Not on the ballot was a tripleheader merger among the three, which seems like it would have been a good idea.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed name is a partial agglomeration of the previous names to make one that is not readily identifiable with a location, something becoming more common in Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>A side effect of this arrangement is likely to be that the elementary school in Sabula, Iowa&#8217;s easternmost school building, will close.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 14, 2011: The cornerstone of the original Preston school building is half-obscured by a 1950 addition.
