{"id":4187,"date":"2013-11-18T13:06:37","date_gmt":"2013-11-18T19:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=4187"},"modified":"2013-11-18T13:06:37","modified_gmt":"2013-11-18T19:06:37","slug":"ia-175-bridge-transfer-end-to-tolls-scheduled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2013\/11\/ia-175-bridge-transfer-end-to-tolls-scheduled\/","title":{"rendered":"IA 175 bridge transfer, end to tolls scheduled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/Sept07\/17\/End175W_brahead.jpg\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" \/><br \/>\n<em><strong>September 17, 2007<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The second-to-last privately owned toll bridge on the Iowa part of the Missouri River is about to be free.<\/p>\n<p>A story earlier this month from the <em>Sioux City Journal<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/journalstar.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/nebraska\/decatur-bridge-about-to-become-a-free-crossing\/article_82fb2a5c-56b7-5cec-9f9d-f8e688eb92f3.html\">reprinted in the <em>Lincoln Journal Star<\/em><\/a>) said the Burt County Bridge Commission was preparing to turn the <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia175.html\">IA 175\/NE 51 bridge<\/a> over to their respective states, and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.iowadot.gov\/newsandinfo\/2013\/11\/iowa-dot-and-nebraska-department-of-roads-to-take-over-decatur-bridge.html\">press release Friday<\/a> from the Iowa DOT confirms the approval of the transfer.\u00a0Nebraska will be in charge of most of the bridge maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>Both items say Nov. 30 will be the last day tolls will be collected.<\/p>\n<p>Six years ago, the US 34 bridge across the Missouri River was <a href=\"http:\/\/journalstar.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/govt-and-politics\/plattsmouth-acquires-missouri-bridge-for-a-buck\/article_e81a6181-ab65-533f-87fc-061d801f00b7.html\">transferred from private ownership<\/a> to Iowa and Nebraska but \u00a0remains tolled.
