As someone who has used them often, I would say that losing them would be a very bad thing.<\/p>\n<p>The state <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/article\/20131127\/NEWS\/311270059\/\"> spent around $600 million<\/a> on construction projects in 2013 \u2014 just construction, not other DOT-related activities. The rest areas cost $6 million to operate \u2014 <em>one percent<\/em> of that amount.
