{"id":4332,"date":"2013-12-27T10:55:22","date_gmt":"2013-12-27T16:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=4332"},"modified":"2013-12-27T01:07:36","modified_gmt":"2013-12-27T07:07:36","slug":"an-unasked-question-about-young-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2013\/12\/an-unasked-question-about-young-drivers\/","title":{"rendered":"An unasked question about young drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Is there a relationship between the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/article\/20131226\/NEWS\/312260039\/1001\/\">increasing restrictions imposed on teenage drivers<\/a>, which have been going on for a decade or so, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livescience.com\/40868-fewer-millenials-look-to-cars-for-mobility.html\">&#8220;trend pieces&#8221;<\/a> that say millennials are not as interested in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2013\/08\/21\/209579037\/why-millennials-are-ditching-cars-and-redefining-ownership\">getting drivers&#8217; licenses<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/2013\/06\/19\/millenials-car-culture-column\/2435173\/\">driving cars<\/a> as previous generations? Or is the latter part based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/dalebuss\/2013\/10\/24\/teens-actually-may-want-wheels-just-cant-afford-them\/\">on increased car prices, or the inability to peel them away from their screens<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Or is there no correlation between any of the above at all?<\/p>\n<p>As someone on the leading edge of the &#8220;millennial generation&#8221;, I have thought for a while now that it is too large in scope. The very fast changes in technology have a lot to do with that. There is a divide within the generation, not solely on age, but also on what you got first: a full-fledged driver&#8217;s license or a cell phone.
