{"id":4370,"date":"2014-01-04T14:46:32","date_gmt":"2014-01-04T20:46:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=4370"},"modified":"2014-01-04T14:48:57","modified_gmt":"2014-01-04T20:48:57","slug":"on-the-dots-new-logo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2014\/01\/on-the-dots-new-logo\/","title":{"rendered":"On the DOT&#8217;s new logo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the Iowa Department of Transportation <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.iowadot.gov\/newsandinfo\/2013\/07\/smarter-simpler-customer-driven-iowa-dot-revamps-website-to-better-serve-you.html\">released its redesigned homepage<\/a> in July, <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2013\/07\/what-did-the-iowa-dot-do-to-its-website\/\">I was very disgruntled<\/a>. I saw the triumph of style over substance, a three-button splash screen that obscured more than it helped. (In other words, I had the complete opposite reaction <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingtransportation.wordpress.com\/2013\/08\/14\/from-a-customers-view-iowa-dots-new-web-site\/\">of this guy<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>So when word leaked out that the agency was also pursuing a rebranding\/logo redesign, I was concerned. Besides the standard case of &#8220;if it ain&#8217;t broke, don&#8217;t fix it&#8221;, there was also the perception of spending money for that while needing more for construction. In the state&#8217;s defense, $100,000 over five years is less than what is spent on washing important bridges on the state lines, and the total would be only a fraction of the cost of one bridge overlay.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/article\/20140104\/NEWS\/301040042\/Cash-strapped-DOT-phasing-in-new-logo?archive\">result probably isn&#8217;t that bad except<\/a>\u00a0\u2014<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/images\/Image%20preview\/Iowa-DOT-logo_horizontal-with-tagline_color-gradient.png\" width=\"396\" height=\"90\" \/><\/p>\n<p>OMG WE&#8217;RE PLAYING BUZZWORD BINGO.<\/p>\n<p>At least there are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/logo_use.html\">versions without the tagline<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When the Iowa Department of Transportation released its redesigned homepage in July, I was very disgruntled.
