{"id":5298,"date":"2014-09-10T10:55:04","date_gmt":"2014-09-10T15:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=5298"},"modified":"2014-09-10T01:12:35","modified_gmt":"2014-09-10T06:12:35","slug":"garner-hayfield-ventura-is-a-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2014\/09\/garner-hayfield-ventura-is-a-go\/","title":{"rendered":"Garner-Hayfield-Ventura is a go"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The school district that Iowa <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.desmoinesregister.com\/article\/20010819\/SPORTS11\/50628024\/Lynne-Lorenzen-Ventura-2001\">girls&#8217; basketball phenom Lynne Lorenzen<\/a> led to a state six-on-six title in 1987, Ventura, will expire next year.<\/p>\n<p>The Garner-Hayfield and Ventura school districts <a href=\"http:\/\/kimt.com\/2014\/09\/09\/landslide-victory-in-garner-hayfield-merger-with-ventura-vote\/\">voted overwhelmingly for consolidation<\/a> after three years of whole-grade sharing.<\/p>\n<p>This year between Clear Lake and Algona on US 18 there were four school districts on the way: Ventura, Garner-Hayfield, West Hancock, and Corwith-Wesley. Next fall there will officially be three: GHV, West Hancock, and Lu Verne, which will receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/garnerleader\/status\/509551485458604032\">dissolved C-W&#8217;s land<\/a> as explained Monday.*<\/p>\n<p>In other news, <a href=\"http:\/\/thegazette.com\/subject\/news\/education\/school-district\/solon-voters-approve-springville-voters-reject-school-bonds-20140909\">Springville rejected a bond issue<\/a> to replace its 53-year-old elementary school. That is a relatively <em>young<\/em> building in Iowa terms, but it has the additional burden of <a href=\"http:\/\/thegazette.com\/subject\/news\/springvilles-decision-upgrading-a-rundown-school-meets-decling-enrollment-20140904\">&#8220;open-concept&#8221; classrooms<\/a> that were briefly in vogue in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>*I wrote the headline for this blog post <em>before<\/em> looking at the <em>Garner Leader<\/em>&#8216;s Twitter feed, which also said &#8220;it&#8217;s a go&#8221; in regards to GHV.
