{"id":5326,"date":"2014-09-24T10:12:27","date_gmt":"2014-09-24T15:12:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=5326"},"modified":"2014-09-22T01:29:45","modified_gmt":"2014-09-22T06:29:45","slug":"dire-straits-for-farragut-hamburg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2014\/09\/dire-straits-for-farragut-hamburg\/","title":{"rendered":"Dire straits for Farragut, Hamburg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week had more bad news for the Farragut and Hamburg school districts in far southwest Iowa. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kmaland.com\/news\/hamburg-farragut-on-the-clock\/article_97fcda5c-4018-11e4-bf81-001a4bcf6878.html\">KMA<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omaha.com\/news\/iowa\/fremont-county-iowa-school-districts-could-be-dissolved-in-next\/article_e77a95fe-4010-11e4-abae-0017a43b2370.html\"><em>Omaha World-Herald<\/em><\/a> both have stories. Both say the state has given the districts a 30-day deadline to explain how they will solve their financial issues. KMA says there is a hearing tonight (Wednesday) in Hamburg about putting a proposed consolidation up for a vote. Should that not happen, or if the vote fails, both districts could be dissolved and neither town would have any school.<\/p>\n<p>The OWH article mentions the districts &#8220;lacked facilities compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.&#8221; So here&#8217;s the second blog post in a week about what I call the three A&#8217;s that impede reuse of schools: Asbestos, adaptability, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
