{"id":5573,"date":"2014-12-03T10:30:25","date_gmt":"2014-12-03T16:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=5573"},"modified":"2014-12-03T10:46:55","modified_gmt":"2014-12-03T16:46:55","slug":"seven-votes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2014\/12\/seven-votes\/","title":{"rendered":"Seven votes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The combined vote total in Farragut and Hamburg to merge their school districts would have formed a supermajority in favor, but each district must vote separately. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonpareilonline.com\/news\/local\/area-voters-say-yes-no-at-the-polls\/article_77506e74-7a9a-11e4-a304-97284005eeac.html\">Hamburg opposed reorganization by seven votes.<\/a>\u00a0Not quite 1000 votes were cast overall, but it&#8217;s the 271 &#8220;nays&#8221; in Iowa&#8217;s southwesternmost school district that dictated the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>A slow process that began five years ago with sharing superintendents and got rocky earlier this calendar year when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kmaland.com\/news\/hamburg-board-does-not-renew-superintendent-agreement-with-farragut\/article_8961b198-8d58-11e3-ace8-001a4bcf6878.html#.UvD0ztffxoY.twitter\">Hamburg didn&#8217;t renew that agreement<\/a>\u00a0just got very interesting.
