{"id":5787,"date":"2015-02-12T10:14:19","date_gmt":"2015-02-12T16:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=5787"},"modified":"2015-02-12T02:03:24","modified_gmt":"2015-02-12T08:03:24","slug":"what-did-iowa-do-to-you-agent-carter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/02\/what-did-iowa-do-to-you-agent-carter\/","title":{"rendered":"What did Iowa do to you, &#8220;Agent Carter&#8221;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Previously in Marvel&#8217;s &#8220;Agent Carter,&#8221; we had a 30-second scene where Peggy Carter met Dorothy Underwood from Iowa, <a href=\"http:\/\/bamsmackpow.com\/2015\/01\/16\/marvels-agent-carter-brainstorm-session-dorothy-underwood\/\">who came to New York City to be a professional dancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now we know her name isn&#8217;t Dorothy Underwood, and she isn&#8217;t from Iowa. She is, in fact, a Russian\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/2015\/01\/28\/marvels-agent-carter-dottie-black-widow\">trained from a young age to be a ruthless spy\/assassin<\/a> in the Black Widow program (cf. Scarlett Johansson&#8217;s character in &#8220;The Avengers&#8221;). Perhaps we should be glad the writers didn&#8217;t name-drop a town in this case, although there is an Underwood, Iowa&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Between that, an ex-agent of SHIELD <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2014\/11\/what-did-iowa-do-to-you-agents-of-shield\/\">who was killed before the first commercial break<\/a>, and a &#8220;valedictorian in Iowa City&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/captain-america-2-winter-soldier-easter-eggs-trivia-comic-book\/\">targeted by HYDRA<\/a>, the Hawkeye State isn&#8217;t doing too well in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.<\/p>\n<p>In the comics at least, the <a href=\"http:\/\/wcfcourier.com\/news\/local\/hometown-hero-avengers-character-hails-from-waverly\/article_3efbf18e-8fb4-11e1-922a-0019bb2963f4.html \">character Hawkeye is from Waverly<\/a>, but that has not been established in the MCU. And then\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wcfcourier.com\/other-iowa-superheroes\/article_5e22f8c0-8fbc-11e1-bc0f-0019bb2963f4.html \">somehow Clutier (!!!) got dropped into the comics<\/a> as a town full of Nazi sympathizers (!!!).
