{"id":5954,"date":"2015-03-31T10:35:40","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T15:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=5954"},"modified":"2015-03-30T01:55:49","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T06:55:49","slug":"two-additions-to-the-unvisited-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/03\/two-additions-to-the-unvisited-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Two additions to the &#8220;unvisited&#8221; list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Hey, that&#8217;s not how this is supposed to work!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Since my New Year&#8217;s resolution <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/01\/resolved-to-visit-every-incorporated-place-in-iowa\/\">to visit all of Iowa&#8217;s incorporated places <\/a>(eventually), I have had to refine my list slightly. First, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/maps\/msp\/citypdf\/KLEMME-ci.pdf\">Klemme is obviously not on US 69<\/a>, and I haven&#8217;t been in that area since 2006. But secondly, something that you probably wouldn&#8217;t notice unless you&#8217;re looking for it, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/maps\/msp\/citypdf\/FOSTORIA-ci.pdf\">Fostoria&#8217;s city limits do not touch US 71<\/a>. When US 71 was four-laned between Spencer and Milford, about a mile on the east side of Fostoria became a frontage road \u2014 and even that isn&#8217;t technically inside the city.<\/p>\n<p>This, along with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/maps\/msp\/citypdf\/GREENVILLE-ci.pdf\">Greenville<\/a> not being on B53 to Gillett Grove, would have been really nice to know in 2010, when I was right there. Instead, Clay County remains in the &#8220;unclinched&#8221; list, and will require some time to finish. On the other hand, that may give me an excuse to check out one of Iowa&#8217;s oldest paved rural roads, that gray line on the map just on the east side of US 71 south of Milford, paved in 1921. (I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s the original <em>pavement<\/em>, but it has been <em>a paved road<\/em> since then.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey, that&#8217;s not how this is supposed to work!
