{"id":6236,"date":"2015-06-16T10:24:00","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T15:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=6236"},"modified":"2015-06-16T01:28:13","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T06:28:13","slug":"football-playoffs-back-to-16-per-class","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/06\/football-playoffs-back-to-16-per-class\/","title":{"rendered":"Football playoffs back to 16 per class"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, knock me over with a feather. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/sports\/football\/2015\/06\/15\/iowa-high-school-football-playoffs\/71257072\/\">The IHSAA is going back to 16 teams per class in the football postseason starting in 2016.<\/a>\u00a0There won&#8217;t be 2-7 teams in the playoffs anymore, and now the points start to matter again for 7-2 teams. There does not appear to be any plan to change the &#8220;as-you-go&#8221; bracketing, however.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s being framed as a player issue, to prevent playing four games in 15 days (F-W-M-F), but I believe the new hard start date for school was also a factor.\u00a0I wholeheartedly support this reversal from a situation where <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2014\/01\/more-than-half-of-football-teams-will-qualify-for-the-postseason\/\">more than half of teams qualified for the postseason<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to see how things shook out last year, when 9-0 South Winneshiek squashing 3-6 Lake Mills was one of the matchups involving a team with a losing record, <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/pdfs\/IAHSFB_Brackets14.pdf\">the all-classes-all-brackets PDF is linked in the sidebar<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2014\/12\/creation-analysis-of-retroactive-football-brackets\/\">individual images are on this December blog post<\/a>\u00a0that also analyzed the brackets.
