Use your imagination.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post&#8217;s Philip Bump took the day after a <a href=\"http:\/\/touch.latimes.com\/#section\/-1\/article\/p2p-84214255\/\">whirlwind of presidential candidate stops at the Iowa State Fair<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0spent Sunday <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2015\/08\/16\/a-look-at-the-99-9-percent-of-the-iowa-state-fair-that-has-nothing-to-do-with-politics\/\">being a regular fairgoer and making a photo essay<\/a> about all the things and people you see at the fair that aren&#8217;t surrounded by reporters and boom mikes. Corn ogling is involved.*<\/p>\n<p>It looks like the candidates appear to have <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/08\/advice-for-presidential-candidates-visiting-our-fair-state\/\">taken my advice<\/a> and went for the pork chop on a stick instead of a corn dog. Notice, also, that said item is now <em>seven dollars<\/em>, a price increase effective last year, after seven years at $6. Internet evidence of the previous increase is clear in comparing a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bsbrewing.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/2006-iowa-state-fair\/\">2006 blog post<\/a> with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fwO97XdRfEM\">2007 YouTube clip<\/a>. As for the cattlemen (who may be feeling a bit left out), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CattlemensBeefQuarters\/photos\/pcb.846660442084058\/846660415417394\/?type=1&amp;permPage=1\">their two top items<\/a> \u2014 prime rib dinner and hot beef sundae \u2014 are up 40% ($13 to $18) and 25% ($6 to $7.50) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/karebear006\/2763687953\/in\/photolist-4jeUpM-2EWXN9-jXfiz-n6zDp-kzHXW-8APdXB-8KtjTK-2Tk1Hh-5ddC9i-2Cm1CE-5c5Nbz-4sUN4m-6RVDGj-3nbNi9\">since 2008<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>*The Corn Oglers would be a good name for a bluegrass band.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a cow made of butter.
