{"id":6971,"date":"2016-01-12T10:00:52","date_gmt":"2016-01-12T16:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=6971"},"modified":"2016-01-10T17:32:30","modified_gmt":"2016-01-10T23:32:30","slug":"adair-casey-losing-its-high-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/01\/adair-casey-losing-its-high-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Adair-Casey losing its high school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(Here would be a good spot for a Duffy cartoon: The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=adair+water+tower\">Adair water tower<\/a> with a frowny face.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The school district that won the first two state championships in Iowa&#8217;s current 8-player-football classification is no longer able to continue on its own.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ks957.com\/adair-casey-guthrie-center-whole-grade-sharing-released\/\">Adair-Casey has approved a whole-grade sharing agreement with Guthrie Center, starting next school year.<\/a> This news is an outgrowth of <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/01\/north-tama-smallest-public-school-in-11-man-football\/\">last week&#8217;s blog post about football classifications<\/a> through a reader e-mail.<\/p>\n<p>PDF documents on A-C&#8217;s website show the district has been looking for a partner for two years (<a href=\"http:\/\/accs.dynamicwebware.com\/school_board\/FAQs_for_A-C_website3.12.2014.pdf\">March 2014 FAQ<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accs.k12.ia.us\/Community_Questions_-_June_2015_Mtg-2.pdf\">June 2015 FAQ<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accs.k12.ia.us\/school_board\/combined_survey(1).pdf\">survey with sideways-scanned results<\/a> <em>[UFF DA -Ed.]<\/em>) and <a href=\"http:\/\/accs.dynamicwebware.com\/school_board\/Board_Message_for_November_2015.pdf\">took the next step in the fall<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The schools set the record for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/sports\/high-school\/2015\/08\/08\/iowa-high-school-football-preseason-preview\/31341433\/\">highest-scoring football game in state history<\/a>\u00a0in 2014\u00a0when the Guthrie Center Tigers (literally the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheatsheet.com\/sports\/the-7-most-popular-team-names-in-american-sports.html\/?a=viewall\">second-most generic name ever<\/a>) beat the\u00a0Adair-Casey Bombers (awesome name) 99-66.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on how you treat AGWSR (acronym or spelled out), Adair-Casey is the first\/second name alphabetically of all Iowa school districts. I suggest a very obvious combination for a new name: <strong>Adair-Guthrie<\/strong>, a name that (1) keeps the alphabetical place, which has benefits, (2) is firmly geographic, only now referencing the two counties instead of the cities, and (3) throws a bone to the district losing its high school (of course, this isn&#8217;t helping Gladbrook-Reinbeck at the moment but I digress).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Here would be a good spot for a Duffy cartoon: The Adair water tower with a frowny face.)
