In the decades since, traffic has grown by leaps and bounds and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kwwl.com\/story\/23823512\/2013\/10\/29\/notoriously-dangerous-hwy-20-intersection-may-see-improvements\">intersection has become dangerous<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.iowadot.gov\/pim\/2015\/12\/us-20-at-swiss-valley-road-in-dubuque-county-feb-4-2016.html\">The state has a long-term plan<\/a> to turn the angle into a more gradual curve, but not all at once. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/pim\/documents\/020416PIMUS20PD.pdf\">The first part of the plan, scheduled for 2019 (PDF)<\/a>, reshapes the westbound lanes, but keeps an at-grade intersection. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/pim\/documents\/020416PIMUS20PS.pdf\">The long-term plan (PDF)<\/a> moves the eastbound lanes to the same curve and builds an interchange with frontage roads, moving part of North Cascade Road farther away from 20.
