{"id":7193,"date":"2016-02-29T10:00:34","date_gmt":"2016-02-29T16:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=7193"},"modified":"2016-02-26T01:25:58","modified_gmt":"2016-02-26T07:25:58","slug":"meeting-about-us-30-in-toledo-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/02\/meeting-about-us-30-in-toledo-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting about US 30 in Toledo this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Iowa DOT <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.iowadot.gov\/pim\/2016\/02\/us-30-in-tama-county-march-3-2016.html\">will hold a meeting in Toledo on Thursday<\/a> to discuss the plan to four-lane US 30 in eastern Tama County.<\/p>\n<p>It won&#8217;t be completed for years, but the first step is acquiring right-of-way. The project statement says an all-new four-lane will be built north of the existing lanes, which will be removed &#8220;with the exception of some minor areas where the existing roadway may be used as a frontage road.&#8221; This indicates that Alternative 3 shown in June 2011 was the final selection, which was far enough north the old road can remain. The four-lane will take out whatever&#8217;s left of the extinct village of Gladstone and negate the need for a bridge over the old railroad grade.<\/p>\n<p>Building four all-new lanes while eliminating the existing roadbed has gained traction in Iowa recently. The new plans for US 61 north of Burlington <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/pim\/documents\/021615US61ROW3.pdf\">have a mixture of that<\/a> (PDF) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowadot.gov\/pim\/documents\/021615US61ROW2.pdf\">leaving old 61 as a frontage road<\/a>\u00a0(PDF) with the exception of a couple intersections where the road will &#8220;bow out&#8221;.
