{"id":7900,"date":"2016-09-12T10:20:14","date_gmt":"2016-09-12T15:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=7900"},"modified":"2016-09-08T00:17:31","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T05:17:31","slug":"kwkb-loses-cw-affiliation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/09\/kwkb-loses-cw-affiliation\/","title":{"rendered":"KWKB loses CW affiliation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, programming for the CW network in eastern Iowa moves from KWKB Channel 20.1 to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kwwl.com\/story\/31705050\/2016\/04\/Tuesday\/the-cw-network-comes-to-kwwl-72-this-fall\">KWWL Channel 7.2<\/a>. KWKB will still be on the air, but taking over the &#8220;This TV&#8221; affiliation instead (or so Wikipedia says). At the same time, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kwwl.com\/story\/32339608\/2016\/06\/Wednesday\/update-kwwl-building-construction-gains-momentum\">KWWL is nearing the end of a complete building renovation project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s probably the biggest change in Iowa TV stations since the CW stations (KWKB and KCWI*) came on the air as WB stations. This is the first time in Iowa that a previously existing network has moved from a channel to a subchannel \u2014 KHQA and KTVO in far southeast Iowa picked up ABC\/CBS secondary affiliations in 2007 and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ktvo.com\/news\/local\/ktvo-adds-new-cbs-station\">2010<\/a>\u00a0respectively, but those were additions to &#8220;in-between&#8221; coverage areas.<\/p>\n<p>The TV landscape in Iowa has remained remarkably stable in the last 30 years, at least on the viewer&#8217;s end \u2014 stations have changed owners, and subchannels have been added in the digital era, but affiliations and call letters haven&#8217;t changed. The NFL-induced <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Repercussions_of_the_1994_United_States_broadcast_TV_realignment\">1994 TV station realignment<\/a> didn&#8217;t touch the state. The CW move here isn&#8217;t nearly the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftvlive.com\/todays-news\/2016\/7\/27\/sinclair-gives-up-abc-affiliation-in-peoria\">shakeup going on in Peoria right now<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now I just have to remember which station I need to record &#8220;Supergirl&#8221; on. (<em>Give us more female-driven shows!<\/em> they said. Then &#8220;Agent Carter&#8221; was cancelled and &#8220;Supergirl&#8221; was pushed off CBS.)<\/p>\n<p>*KCWI is still on Channel 23 despite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/2016\/03\/20\/kcwi-tv-changes-hands-loses-morning-show\/82017610\/\">now being partnered with WOI<\/a> and not having its own local programming anymore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, programming for the CW network in eastern Iowa moves from KWKB Channel 20.1 to\u00a0KWWL Channel 7.2.
