This is pretty cool; I&#8217;m thrilled to see a building of this era preserved.<\/p>\n<p>The building, which was used as a middle school at the end of its life, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.algona.com\/articles\/2011\/01\/27\/news\/top_news\/doc4d385c8620a96915177414.txt\">was cleared of students and school property in January 2011<\/a>. It was <a href=\"http:\/\/globegazette.com\/news\/local\/housing-planned-for-algona-middle-school\/article_a0b0a2a4-c6f9-11e1-a687-001a4bcf887a.html\">sold to the developer for $1 in summer 2012<\/a>, so this has been in the works for four years.<\/p>\n<p>The same success, however, is not in the cards for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swiowanewssource.com\/news\/state\/article_20ae5ec0-0b23-52aa-83d0-feadafef93ef.html\">Burlington&#8217;s 1910 high school building.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Algona&#8217;s 1930 school building will open later this year as an apartment complex, and Iowa Public Radio has a story and photo gallery about it.\u00a0The gym and auditorium will be preserved and open to the public.
