Schmitt, who died at Pearl Harbor, and Pfc. James A. Kruse, an Army medic who died in Vietnam in 1969.<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/StLucasVetMemorial.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Defense has identified the remains of the Rev. Aloysius Schmitt of St. Lucas, Iowa, the <em>Dubuque Telegraph Herald<\/em> reports. (Story on <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/2016\/09\/09\/pearl-harbor-hero-chaplain-aloysius-schmitt-iowa-st-lucas-remains\/90124884\/\">Register&#8217;s<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.omaha.com\/news\/military\/remains-of-first-chaplain-killed-in-wwii-will-be-returned\/article_440709d8-19ae-5fc1-8cf6-ab34a6cdc8dc.html\">World-Herald&#8217;s<\/a><\/em> websites.) Schmitt was a chaplain on the<em> USS Oklahoma<\/em> on Dec. 7, 1941 and, according to the article, saved the lives of 12 sailors before the <em>Oklahoma<\/em> capsized in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
