Johnson State Park &amp; Historic Site, Stonewall, Texas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The last time I was in Texas, more than one hotel had waffle irons that would give you a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Beyond-Basic-Provisions-7707-Waffle\/dp\/B0012A8AWW\">waffle in the shape of Texas<\/a>. If you&#8217;ve been down there, you know Texans love the shape of Texas, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/09\/30\/insider\/the-texas-shaped-world.html?_r=0\">the <em>New York Times<\/em> is on it<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"442\" data-total-count=\"2961\"><em>\u201cThe shape\u2019s not perfect,\u201d says Bud Kennedy, a longtime columnist for The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. \u201cIt has jagged edges and sharp points and smooth lines. But it\u2019s not some boring box shape. It\u2019s a great brand, and not just on cattle. I went to Iowa four years ago for one of the presidential debates. There\u2019s a lot of homespun sense of place in Iowa, but there was no place where people served me waffles the shape of Iowa.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"442\" data-total-count=\"2961\">If you think about it, Iowa would be a good shape for waffles. Two good lines on the top and bottom with character on the edges. (It wouldn&#8217;t be a bad shape for highway signs, either.)<\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"442\" data-total-count=\"2961\">By the time the national media comes back to Iowa to start covering the 2020 caucuses \u2014 sometime between five weeks from tomorrow and 20 months from now \u2014 let&#8217;s rectify this shortcoming.
