{"id":8018,"date":"2016-10-24T10:00:42","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T15:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=8018"},"modified":"2016-10-21T23:57:43","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T04:57:43","slug":"many-forfeits-for-lack-of-players-this-football-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/10\/many-forfeits-for-lack-of-players-this-football-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Many forfeits for lack of players this football season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been enough cases of small high schools forfeiting football games this year due to lack of players after injuries that it&#8217;s worth documenting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehawkeye.com\/sports\/local\/danville-forfeits-its-remaining-five-football-games\/article_6a71a1f9-8763-5f8e-81b6-3a3f6d1c8f4f.html\">Danville forfeited at least half its season (five games)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Mormon Trail (Garden Grove) forfeited at least three and a half games \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/local\/grinnell\/high-school\/2016\/09\/27\/rebels-ambush-bgm-42-14\/91163880\/\">Montezuma<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/sports\/high-school\/2016\/10\/01\/fridays-statewide-high-school-football-scores\/91373764\/\">Lenox<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyiowegian.com\/sports\/local_sports\/fb-preview-reds-look-for-revenge-against-albia\/article_0fddb34c-8bf9-11e6-a83f-ff1d124e953b.html\">Wayne<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kmaland.com\/sports\/class--man-recap-week-fremont-mills-moves-to\/article_1b468672-770f-11e6-921d-6fb07c85d8be.html\">Bedford<\/a>\u00a0in a game that was partially played before a lightning delay.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonpareilonline.com\/sports\/griswold-forfeit-ends-falcons-regular-season\/article_f904370e-95a3-11e6-bf6c-0bf4c3a6ab73.html\">Griswold forfeited to Earlham and Council Bluffs St. Albert<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.radioiowa.com\/2016\/09\/23\/postville-forfeits-tonights-football-game-to-north-linn\/\">Postville forfeited to North Linn<\/a><\/li>\n<li>And then, two not-small schools:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegazette.com\/subject\/sports\/blogs\/diamonds-and-ice-by-jeff-johnson\/western-dubuque-finds-class-4a-football-to-its-liking-20161008\">Waterloo Columbus forfeited against North Fayette Valley<\/a>, which is undefeated, and <a href=\"http:\/\/wcfcourier.com\/sports\/high-school\/east_high_trojans\/east-high-to-forfeit-final-football-game\/article_74764f9b-f5f7-5621-87f6-e60b3219662d.html\">Waterloo East forfeited against Cedar Falls<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>That&#8217;s all after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamptonchronicle.com\/content\/cal-board-oks-football-sharing-agreement-c-g-d\">CAL didn&#8217;t even try to have a team<\/a> and set up an agreement with Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamptonchronicle.com\/content\/certified-enrollment-holds-steady-cal\">CAL is down to about 20 students per grade level.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Playoffs start Friday, back on the old schedule, after the reduction of qualifying teams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There have been enough cases of small high schools forfeiting football games this year due to lack of players after injuries that it&#8217;s worth documenting: Danville forfeited at least half its season (five games) Mormon Trail (Garden Grove) forfeited at &hellip;
