{"id":8105,"date":"2016-11-21T10:00:37","date_gmt":"2016-11-21T16:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=8105"},"modified":"2016-11-17T01:15:23","modified_gmt":"2016-11-17T07:15:23","slug":"more-details-timeline-of-viking-road-interchange-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/11\/more-details-timeline-of-viking-road-interchange-released\/","title":{"rendered":"More details, timeline of Viking Road interchange released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Iowa DOT had a public meeting about the intersection of IA 27\/58 and Viking Road last week, including a presentation on converting the intersection to an interchange. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.iowadot.gov\/pim\/2016\/10\/iowa-58viking-road-intersection-black-hawk-county-november-15.html\">Two maps and the presentation slide show are available online.<\/a>\u00a0The <em>Waterloo Courier<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/wcfcourier.com\/news\/local\/cedar-falls-highway-viking-interchange-eagerly-awaited\/article_2962d7a9-2d9a-53b1-abec-2e901318ffbb.html\">wrote about the meeting.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve been past that intersection (or been stuck in the southbound left-turn lane), it&#8217;s hard to see how anything else could fit there, but they&#8217;ve figured out a way. Viking Road will become a SPUI (the third in Iowa, I believe, after I-35\/Mills Civic Parkway and the new IA 100\/Edgewood Road) with the expressway sunk below grade. Construction will not begin until 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The development along Viking Road since the turn of the century is astounding (sadly, at <a href=\"http:\/\/wcfcourier.com\/business\/local\/michigan-company-now-in-charge-of-college-square-mall\/article_06cdcc3a-22ad-5ebf-9a91-d59c3c237501.html\">the expense of College Square Mall<\/a>) and with the construction disruption, traffic will get worse before it gets better.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Iowa DOT had a public meeting about the intersection of IA 27\/58 and Viking Road last week, including a presentation on converting the intersection to an interchange.
