There were 1518 votes cast, so 60 percent would be 911 votes in favor of the bond issue, and it got 904.<\/p>\n<p>Now we wait to see if the district <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2017\/03\/heads-we-win-tails-you-lose\/\">will make good on its threat<\/a> to close a facility if the vote failed. This is the second-closest bond referendum failure that I&#8217;ve paid close attention to, but the <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/09\/ahstw-succeeds-bond-issues-go-down-in-flames\/\">results of the closest one<\/a> resulted in something much more dire.<\/p>\n<p>The Central district of Elkader <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kwwl.com\/story\/35070237\/2017\/04\/04\/update-central-community-school-district-approves-6-million-bond\">got its bond issue passed<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/kiwaradio.com\/local-news\/west-lyon-voters-approve-bond-issue\/\">so did West Lyon<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/globegazette.com\/news\/local\/osage-schools-bond-referendum-fails\/article_25a5de2b-b541-5942-a915-8c8c84a8485b.html\">Osage&#8217;s failed a second time<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The third attempt at a bond issue in the HMS school district barely missed out on a supermajority, KIWA reports.
