The district wants to build new athletic facilities, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amestrib.com\/news\/20170823\/roland-story-school-district-details-needs-for-new-stadium-improved-auditorium\">reports the <em>Ames Tribune<\/em><\/a>, but \u2014 in a sign of how old things are \u2014 the school is &#8220;landlocked&#8221; and has no available room around it.<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend, the Story City outlet mall closed for good. (Articles: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amestrib.com\/news\/20170811\/story-city8217s-vf-outlet-leaving-for-altoona\"><em>Ames Tribune<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcci.com\/article\/bittersweet-moment-one-mall-closes-another-opens\/12833931\">KCCI<\/a>) It wasn&#8217;t too hopping in the early 2000s, and this weekend&#8217;s opening of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/money\/2017\/10\/17\/altoona-outlet-mall-opens-friday\/769827001\/\">giant outlet mall development<\/a> in Altoona was the death knell.<\/p>\n<p>Roland-Story wants to buy the mall land and build a football field where the building is now.
