Howard County is on the edge\/just outside of the Driftless Area, a region of the country<a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/11\/republicans-expand-rural-reach-in-iowa\/\"> that swung hard overall<\/a> in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><em>The New Yorker<\/em>, meanwhile, went to the other side of the state and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2017\/11\/13\/where-the-small-town-american-dream-lives-on\">looked at Orange City<\/a>.
