Trophies inside recall the days when this was a high school.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We had made it nearly half the school year without me finding news of any impending school closures (the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegazette.com\/subject\/news\/education\/k-12-education\/cedar-rapids-community-school-districts-plan-to-close-schools-raze-others-and-build-goes-to-board-next-20171111\">multidecade process proposed for Cedar Rapids<\/a> doesn&#8217;t count).<\/p>\n<p>But now the Allamakee School District is thinking about closing its only building outside of Waukon, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kwwl.com\/story\/37014401\/2017\/12\/Thursday\/allamakee-schools-mulling-future-of-waterville-elementary\">Waterville Elementary<\/a>. Enrollment is less than a third of what it was 20 years ago. The 85-year-old building is going to need a new roof and boiler soon, the KWWL story says.
