Kentucky Senate. (No, I didn't intend these chambers to be on split pages. Sorry.)

As typical, the statehouse is on the highest hill in the city.

Grave of Daniel Boone
|
Marker for J.J. Hardin, namesake of Hardin County, Iowa, killed at the Battle of Buena Vista, namesake of Buena Vista County, Iowa.
(But Wikipedia says he's buried in Illinois.)
|
I got into Lexington at rush hour and had two stops planned: the football stadium and Rupp Arena. Here's the stadium, but traffic
was just too much of a hassle to see the arena.

Sign on I-71/75 in Kentucky for Ohio exits. My second time coming into Cincinnati from the south in eight days.
|
I-74 exit from northbound I-75.
|
Grave of William Henry Harrison, the 30-day president, southwest of Cincinnati.
|
I went one exit into Ohio on I-275 to clinch that road in Kentucky, then turned around. Around here is really where I should have
stopped, but I bit off more than I could chew with a hotel reservation in Indiana. More driving followed.

Sign error in Shelbyville, Indiana, as I start Day 10 (July 15).
|
As the roadgeeks know, the assortment of US routes tacked on to I-465 disappear on the signs.
|
This sign set has cities in three states, skipping over anything in Illinois on I-70.

Walking toward the RCA Dome in downtown Indianapolis.
|
Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts.
|
Another view of the new stadium.
|
For a facility that would be torn down months after I took these pictures, it was in pretty good shape. Why they couldn't get
10 if not 20 more years out of it is beyond me.

One more view of the RCA Dome

Union Station, near the stadiums
|
The two stadiums existed next to each other for only a short time, and I was there to see it.
|
Split-interstate panels in downtown. I also went to the Indiana State Museum and recommend it.

Facing this way, it's 4:22 PM...
|
...but this way, it's 5:22. State line on US 36.

University of Illinois Memorial Stadium in Champaign

Carvings above the entry doors

Look at the Greek columns incorporated into the design.
|
Assembly Hall, University of Illinois basketball.

Historic stadiums fortunate to live into the 21st century must now endure something no football fan or university official
of times past could have envisioned - luxury boxes.

One picture from Day 11 (July 16), crossing into Missouri during the noon hour. I came back into Iowa in a humble way, following
old IA 15 to Pulaski and then back to Des Moines via Oskaloosa.
