{"id":10239,"date":"2018-08-30T10:00:21","date_gmt":"2018-08-30T15:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=10239"},"modified":"2018-08-29T12:40:02","modified_gmt":"2018-08-29T17:40:02","slug":"once-key-waterloo-intersection-being-rebuilt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2018\/08\/once-key-waterloo-intersection-being-rebuilt\/","title":{"rendered":"Once-key Waterloo intersection being rebuilt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The intersection of Franklin Street and First Street just to the north of downtown Waterloo is going to have major work done on it, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.iowadot.gov\/newsandinfo\/2018\/08\/franklin-street-at-us-63-in-waterloo-to-close-sept-4-for-construction-work.html\">the Iowa DOT says in a press release.<\/a>\u00a0That starts the day after Labor Day and is related to the project turning the US 63 railroad underpass into an overpass.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin Street was the pre-freeway route of US 20 through central Waterloo, and after some bridge shuffling, the intersections with First and Mullan Avenue became 63&#8217;s intersections with 20. For a couple years after the freeway opened the spot was the <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia5758\/ia57E.html\">east end of IA 57<\/a>, which had taken over 20&#8217;s route.
