{"id":13021,"date":"2021-05-10T10:00:13","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T15:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=13021"},"modified":"2021-05-09T00:18:02","modified_gmt":"2021-05-09T05:18:02","slug":"council-bluffs-dual-divided-freeway-completion-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2021\/05\/council-bluffs-dual-divided-freeway-completion-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Council Bluffs dual, divided freeway completion this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An e-mail from a mailing list and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.iowadot.gov\/newsandinfo\/2021\/05\/multiple-construction-closures-expected-this-week-in-council-bluffs.html\">this DOT press release<\/a> bring good news for western Iowa: The I-80 dual, divided freeway separation will be completed this week.<\/p>\n<p>There will be some closures to get lane shifts complete, but starting Thursday, a traveler getting on I-80 at 13th Street in Omaha can go straight through to Madison Avenue in Council Bluffs with only the I-29 exits in between. The I-29\/local\/outer lanes have the South Expressway and South 24th Street exits. The entrance ramp at South Expressway will have its own bridge and lanes to southbound I-29 and eastbound I-80.<\/p>\n<p>Technically, if you&#8217;re really hard-core about it, this means you can travel I-80 without traveling I-29, and travel I-29 without traveling I-80.<\/p>\n<p>The wrap-up of this part of the Council Bluffs Interstate System project comes just as the next part starts. Construction on the I-29\/I-480 interchange, which will include a complete rebuild and changes to the Nebraska Avenue, Avenue G, and 35th Street ramps, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ketv.com\/article\/iowa-dot-prepares-for-next-big-construction-project-in-council-bluffs\/35856992\">began in April<\/a>\u00a0(KETV). At the same time, the I-480 Missouri River bridge is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2021\/03\/16\/ndot-starts-i-480-construction-project\/\">undergoing major rehab<\/a> on the Nebraska side that will last 2\u00bd years (WOWT).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An e-mail from a mailing list and this DOT press release bring good news for western Iowa: The I-80 dual, divided freeway separation will be completed this week.
