This complete shutdown over winter is unusual for Iowa construction.<\/p>\n<p>US 20 in western Iowa was going to be detoured through Galva and Schaller <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/10\/significant-us-20-detour-to-last-two-years\/\">over both the winters of 2016-17 and 2017-18<\/a>, but the DOT <a href=\"https:\/\/siouxcityjournal.com\/special-section\/siouxland_business\/highway-20-detour-through-galva-pauses-for-winter\/article_1733a4aa-deb5-5802-9898-1385dd4cebe3.html\">backed off that plan<\/a> on contractor&#8217;s preference.<\/p>\n<p>IA 175 will be detoured between Mapleton and Castana on L32 and E34, and the state will &#8220;perform winter maintenance&#8221; on those roads this winter, the press release linked above says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, IA 175 west of Mapleton closed for a bridge replacement.
