{"id":15024,"date":"2023-08-18T10:00:35","date_gmt":"2023-08-18T15:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=15024"},"modified":"2023-08-17T15:23:58","modified_gmt":"2023-08-17T20:23:58","slug":"state-center-intersection-a-trouble-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2023\/08\/state-center-intersection-a-trouble-spot\/","title":{"rendered":"State Center intersection a trouble spot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/Sept11\/30_S52_eb_oct11.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"220\" \/><em><strong>October 27, 2011:<\/strong> This intersection on US 30, the <a href=\"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/ends\/ia234.html\">north end of old IA 234<\/a>, has had several non-fatal crashes in the past few years, KCCI reports.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The now-seeming tradition of trouble with at-grade intersections on roads upgraded to four lanes in Iowa continues, this time in State Center.<\/p>\n<p>Left turns from US 30 into State Center have resulted in multiple crashes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcci.com\/article\/iowa-state-center-police-dot-discuss-traffic-safety-improvements-for-stretch-of-hwy-30\/44523958\">KCCI reported last month<\/a>. The median of US 30 is not wide enough for a stop sign in the middle. See also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesrepublican.com\/news\/todays-news\/2023\/07\/state-center-pd-iowa-dot-exploring-safety-options-at-highway-30-durham-intersection\/\">this <em>Marshalltown Times-Republican<\/em> story.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The KCCI story says advance intersection warning signs will be coming to the location. I expect them to be similar to the ones at the Springville intersection on US 151.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s taken Springville a decade just to get an interchange on the five-year plan. State Center likely has the room for one, at the cost of at least the Wolf Country Customs building. Since this is a very flat area, a bridge over 30 would have to be entirely built up.
