One of those graphics looks at Waterloo&#8217;s stagnant enrollment vs. Waukee&#8217;s astronomical growth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/betweentworivers.substack.com\/p\/crunching-numbers-on-iowa-school\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15391\" src=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/schoolnumbers24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/schoolnumbers24.jpg 600w, https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/schoolnumbers24-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/schoolnumbers24-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The Des Moines Register<\/em>, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/education\/2024\/02\/06\/iowa-school-choice-law-who-received-state-funded-esas-in-first-year\/72437940007\/\">its evaluation of private school enrollments and voucher use<\/a>, committed a whopper of an error online:\u00a0&#8220;Dallas County, which holds much of the Urbandale and West Des Moines school districts, is the wealthiest in the state, with a median household income above $90,000 \u2014\u00a0roughly the 300% cutoff for a family of four.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dallas County holds a good part of both cities, but precisely NONE of the Urbandale school district and a tiny piece of West Des Moines. Everyone in those cities living in Dallas County save for one subdivision\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/educate.iowa.gov\/media\/8046\/download?inline=\">goes to Waukee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: The DMR&#8217;s error also appeared in print.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My Substack piece this week is about the 2023-24 Iowa school enrollment numbers, with a map and two graphics.
