{"id":8328,"date":"2017-02-09T10:00:23","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T16:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/?p=8328"},"modified":"2017-02-08T01:38:02","modified_gmt":"2017-02-08T07:38:02","slug":"gladbrook-reinbeck-dissolution-vote-returns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2017\/02\/gladbrook-reinbeck-dissolution-vote-returns\/","title":{"rendered":"Gladbrook-Reinbeck dissolution vote returns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conradrecord.com\/content\/g-r-dissolution-vote-back\">Yes, we&#8217;re apparently doing this all over again.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Short recap (all back to old blog posts): The Gladbrook-Reinbeck school board <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/04\/impending-loss-of-school-weighs-on-gladbrook\/\">voted to close the Gladbrook center<\/a>, residents <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2015\/07\/gladbrook-residents-submit-petition-for-dissolution-of-district\/\">petitioned to dissolve the district<\/a>, MANY <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/04\/gladbrook-reinbeck-dissolution-committee-meets\/\">meetings were held<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/05\/draft-gladbrook-reinbeck-dissolution-map-released\/\">map was drawn<\/a>, and then the <a href=\"http:\/\/iowahighwayends.net\/blog\/2016\/09\/gladbrook-reinbeck-dissolution-rejected\/\">entire thing was thrown out<\/a> because the signatures appear to have predated the petition itself.<\/p>\n<p>To show how hot this issue is running, a new petition was prepared <em>within weeks <\/em>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesrepublican.com\/news\/todays-news\/2017\/01\/g-r-awaits-dissolution-input-from-surrounding-districts\/\">presented to the board Oct. 25<\/a>. There will be a meeting for this round March 8 in Reinbeck, and a vote will need to be held this calendar year. The map drawn up last time can still stand unless a district has a change of mind.<\/p>\n<p>All previous statements remain true: The decision of a K-12 district to self-immolate <em>would be unprecedented in Iowa history<\/em> and there&#8217;s only one semi-close analogue.<\/p>\n<p>(In mostly unrelated news, I see the <em>Times-Republican&#8217;s<\/em> website has been redesigned but the weeklies&#8217; sites haven&#8217;t.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, we&#8217;re apparently doing this all over again.
