(July 1, 1920-December 1, 1930)
NORTH End: Humeston, Wayne County
Facing south on 66, now US 65 (4/16/07)
IA 66 is one of two routes in southern Iowa later replaced by US 65. I've been to Humeston (1920 pop. 1214, 2010 pop. 494) three times but got no town pictures.
SOUTH End: IA 3, now US 65 at IA 2, Wayne County
Facing east on 3, now IA 2 (10/3/15)
In 1920, IA 65 went north from here, and the east-west route inexplicably went south half a mile and then east on what is now Liberty Avenue, which retains the 1929 concrete under an asphalt overlay. US 65 south of here, the only component of the 1926 US route system that did not exist in the 1920 primary system, was not paved until 1948.
